Rory is one of those irritatingly smart people who seems to be able to do everything. He writes beautifully in a range of styles for a range of media. He ‘gets’ websites and their infrastructure, and the intricacies of writing copy for them. And he needs very little briefing and no overseeing to get the job done. Rory has become an extension of our Marketing Team, and has in fact trained a couple of members of the team in communications and writing. He adds value to any business he’s associated with.
I’ve known Rory for some years—he delivered the 2 day writing for the web course that pretty much every Queensland Government web writer has attended. I had done such courses before (even delivered some in my time) and went along not expecting to learn too much—but it was 2 of the best days of professional development I’d had in years. He knows the topic backwards, and the asides, supporting stories, examples, references, exercises and real world applications made what could have been ‘dull’ material entertaining and relevant. We then worked together over a couple of years and I was always able to rely on Rory for advice and editorial support when grappling with messy content, or topics that were difficult to categorise. And he could always see a cleaner, shorter way to word a tricky sentence. Thanks Rory for years of content chats, sense checking, and the odd grammar lesson.
We’ve been working with East Edit for content development specifically designed to showcase future thought of employees, and leadership in our respective fields. Often we’ll come to Rory with a tangle of concepts, and he does a fantastic job of working through them with each stakeholder to produce interesting and engaging articles. The topics can range from ‘Can robots produce art?’ to ‘How do you mentor someone for the workplace of 2040,’ and many weird and wonderful places in between. Rory and Minnie have both nailed the style, tone, and overall direction of each brief. Most often we only ever have minor amends to their first drafts. I would absolutely recommend their service to anyone looking for quality writers, with great personality to their writing style, and professionalism in their service.
I attended Rory’s web writing course last year and was extremely impressed with the engaging and practical content delivered in the course. It was also really fun! I can now use the skills I learnt to write web content that is clear, usable and useful for customers!
If you’ve read something on a Queensland Government website that made sense, it’s probably thanks to Rory Daly. As editor-in-chief for the QGov Online Program, Rory trained hundreds of people in writing for the web, giving a clear, consistent voice to the Queensland Government online for the first time. Now as Director of East Edit, I commend his services to you.
There are three things to say about Rory’s highly skilled approach to producing content and communications:
It works for customers—customers understand it and actively engage with it, while having a positive experience.
It achieves business objectives—a happy customer can equal greater loyalty, low-effort engagement achieved through good content can increase your number of new customers.
It’s teachable—your staff can learn the principles and build on them to produce good content, all day, every day.
Rory has a thorough grasp of written communication. Customers and businesses benefit from Rory’s ability to distill complex content into web content that’s simple to read, understand and search. Highly recommended.
Rory conducts himself with the utmost professionalism, and has a vast knowledge of best practice in both writing with influence for specific audiences, and web usability. He is highly respected in both the government and private sectors.
His passion and dedication towards his writing, and improving the writing of others through his informative but fun training sessions is unmatched. He motivates and empowers all who have the opportunity to attend his sessions.
Rory is an incredibly gifted writer, trainer and content strategist. Rory’s contribution to QGov Online as Editor in Chief set the direction—and the bar—for the excellent content found throughout Queensland Government’s online channel.
Personally, I used to spend an embarrassing amount of time writing and editing using my gut-feel approach to balancing clarity with brevity. As a result of Rory’s training, I edit more efficiently and with confidence!
Thank you for a very informative 2-day training program!
Rory is an extremely knowledgeable and professional presenter. The information was presented in an accessible and user-friendly format, and the support materials were very well prepared. The exercises encouraged the practical application of key concepts and a deeper understanding of the theoretical approaches.
Rory is passionate about the right way to communicate; his grasp of the English language is the best I have ever seen. He worked with me on 2 challenging projects and I relied on his expertise heavily; he always surpassed my expectations. He is creative, innovative and very productive and I would be happy to discuss further with anyone his strengths.
